Semtek is UK based producer Benjamin Roth, who makes precise, experimental house and techno music from his studio in Hackney Wick, London. He started the Don’t Be Afraid label in 2009 to release his own productions, but then expanded it to encompass the work of other artists like Mr. Beatnick and Photonz in 2011. Tracks like Bells, his first release on the label, are the result of a long period spent listening to UK tech house during the early 00’s and an interest in the musical possibilities of spoken word. Written in 2007, the track did not see the light of day until 2010. It was followed by Idiotland and Lotos Eaters, which continued to mine the tech house seam before he found a more personal, esoteric sound in 2011 with releases like West Acyd Shelter and Pizza, his most successful to date. 2012 already looks set to be a big year for Semtek with releases on World Unknown, Awkward Movements and others already planned. Meanwhile as Don’t Be Afraid big cheese he continues to explore the label’s capacity to bring talented producers like Mr. Beatnick, Photonz and Clause Four out of the shadows.... More Biography
