After playing various gigs in his home town of Manchester, it was his Saturday night adventures at the Sankey's Soap 'Redlight' parties, listening to people like Danny Krivit, Masters at Work, Derrick Carter, and the excellent residents Krysko and Greg Vickers, that stepped up Ben's obsession with sleazy underground house music.
Trips across to Leeds to explore the delights of nights such as Back to Basics and Mad Hatters soon followed, along with a residency at the city's monthly deep house night Kick The Habit (which hosted its parties on the infamous Call Lane) and several spots at Stinky's Peephouse, including a warm up for one of his Chicago inspirations, DJ Heather. He also won a city-wide DJ competition in Manchester, which gained him further exposure within the local scene.
Later on whilst at university in the midlands, he took on a weekly residency at a venue whose zero house music policy led him to expand his horizons and develop a love of soul, funk and disco, which is heavily reflected in his style of music today.
