Jerusalem native, Barak Schnieder (27) broke in to the local club scene with a bang by winning the "Mix 2000" contest (the biggest DJ competition ever held in Israel) in front of thousands of clubers and judged by giants such as Choopie and Ella Gutman. And all this when he was just 17!!!
Schnieder, who began DJing several years before his win and even remembers coming to 3rd grade boy-girl parties with a mix-tape ready in his pocket, became a familiar face in the Tel-Aviv bar and club scene, Playing in events such as the opening of the "TLV" club, underground Techno parties at "Kolnoa Matmid", and at bars such as the Shesek, Sofabeat, Mecca, Layla and the Ays. He was the turntablist for the Hip Hop group "Halutzey Ha'chalal" and special events with the "Bat-Sheva" dance group. He also played alongside big names like Richard Dorfmeister, Daniel Haaksman, Faze Action, Grandmaster Flash... and he came in second in Israel's first freestyle DJ competition.
Today Barak is better known as "Santos Barakos" and he is a regular in Tel-Aviv hot spots such as the Cat & Dog, Bar Ha'arba'a, ZIZI club and Shu-Shu. Another venture he is involved in is the musical direction of the Zinger bar which also boasts it's own internet radio where you can find his archived sets as well as other great Tel-Aviv DJ's.
In terms of musical genres, as the long list of various credits suggests, you cant put a single label on what Barak does. Depending on the crowd, venue and atmosphere he goes from Funk to Disco, House, Hip Hop, Classics and anything that makes people shake their ass.
