
Music caught his attention very early and since 13 he has been banging on drums and snares with friends on a punk band, At 16 he got attracted by electronic music and, given his addictive persona, didn’t rest until he put his hands on the new decks he got one year after. DJ Sputnick was part of the Young Prod, at the time responsible by the greatest events held at Pessidónio, in Figueira da Foz, which brought him some regularity in his activity as a DJ. In 2005 he enters Elements and in 2007, unmotivated and unhappy with the musical scene of the central zone in Portugal, decides to stop for a while and devote himself to the audiovisual. This experience would last 3 years and remain essential in the way he faced the beginning of the second phase in his career, in the end of 2009, through the investment on new technologies and making Ableton Live his platform of election on live performances.
He is a fairly eclectic DJ, which makes it possible that he can play dubstep, techno house or drum’n’bass events with equal freedom and comfort. He won’t refuse a regular spin at the Bergantim, the place for this famous rock’n’roll nights.
Among his main influences in the minimal techno we can find Richie Hawtin, Paul Ritch, Gaiser and Sebo K, in Drum N Bass, Prolix, Suib Focus, Delta Heavy, Netsky and DJ Oder, in the dubstep, Liquid Stranger, Datsik and Pixel Fist, in the house, Steve Bug, Solomun, Jimpster, Motor City Drum Ensemble and Maya Jane Cole. Motorhed and Rage Against the Machine being the rock references.
In Dezember 2009, he decided to resume his DJ activity, while simultaneously establishing UMF – Underground Movement of Figueira – versatile and eclectic promoter which organizes events of maximal, drum’n’bass, techno, reggae and metal, among others and which has been the main responsible for the dynamization of the Bergantim club.
Sputnick is now living in London, and he is one of the founders of the LET'S GET WILD events.
