The year 1994 marks the beginning of DJ Monumental’s career. It began with a set of turntables, a tape deck, an old school Gemini mixer, and an eager seven year old.
Even from such a young age, Mike, who would later be dubbed ‘DJ Monumental’ was already being exposed to the DJ culture. His earliest memories as a kid growing up in Brooklyn were of watching his father set up shop every weekend at local parties and wedding receptions. A young Mike would tag along with his father helping to carry records and set up equipment nearly the same size as him. The set-up would be done, party people would trickle then eventually flood the dance floor and without fail by the end of every night the party-goers would be in total appreciation of the music history booming out Papa Monumental’s speakers.
Witnessing the control his father had over the crowd, and the way he set the mood for everyone to enjoy themselves, Mike knew that this was exactly what he was meant to do. And that’s exactly what he did.
