Our first meetup event for 2025 will focus on sampling! 3 presenters will show you 3 different techniques to make a creative use of samples
It is an approachable method for beginners to make tracks with samples from existing records or sample packs. However, have you experienced any sort of "something is lacking" feeling when you simply loop over some breakbeats or phrase samples straight out of the source? That's what we'd like to cover in this meetup event where you can hear from artists themselves on how they deal with samples, such as processing, playing and any other unique approaches.
Nory Kimijima, making his first ever appearance as a presenter for Ableton Meetup Tokyo (AMT), is a music producer playing bass in many bands including Matsumoto Zoku, Digda, Dahma and more while he also performs live using machines. He will give us a presentation called "Infinite Sample Processing" where he shows his techniques to turn a piece of sample into various different sounds from percussion to sound effects, sharing his way of creating sounds categorically ranging from electronica to glitch out of his field recording materials.
KOYAS, known as artist / Ableton Certified Trainer / the organizer for Ableton Meetup Tokyo, will share some inspiration from sampler modules in the world of modular rigs, taking us on how we can recreate and expand that workflow with Ableton Live's Simpler device in his presentation called "Live as a Ginormous Sampler".
We have another Ableton Certified Trainer as a presenter that is Kohei Machida, also known as DJ / Artist under the name of Svan Code. In his presentation entitled "Cooking Drums with Sample Packs", he will talk us through on how we can create new rhythms with the combination of different sample packs.
And we will have "Move Ping Pong Session" at our Touch & Try booth where 2 units of Ableton Move looping back to back every 32 bars for you to get some hands-on experience with Ableton Move. In this session you can also enjoy the sound coming out of a pair of small speakers called Adam Audio D3V, something you may want to try as well.
You don't need any pre-registration or reservation to join Ableton Meetup Tokyo. If you are a student, make sure to bring your student ID to get your student discount. We are looking forward to seeing you, especially if you are willing to make your 2025 a creative year with music production.
