Shuya Okino (KYOTO JAZZ MASSIVE / KYOTO JAZZ SEXTET)
Shuya Okino is DJ / Creative director of KYOTO JAZZ MASSIVE and of TOKYO CROSSOVER/JAZZ FESTIVAL ,a music curator, songwriter, author and the owner of the renowned music venue The Room, in Tokyo.
He is the leader and founding member of KYOTO JAZZ MASSIVE.Since forming "KYOTO JAZZ MASSIVE" as a DJ unit in the beginning of 90’s. KYOTO JAZZ MASSIVE first made history as the only Japanese artists ever to have a single at No.1 on the BBC Radio ZUBB chart for 3 consecutive weeks with 'Eclipse'. Since then KJM have gone on to become one of the most influential groups in the crossover scene worldwide and Shuya has performed in over 40 countries and 140 cities.
In 2000 KYOTO JAZZ MASSIVE signed to COMPOST RECORDS in Germany and released their first single "ECLIPSE /SILENT MESSENGER" from the label. After it’s release, the track made number one in the BBC RADIO ONE ZUBB CHART and was highly acclaimed worldwide. In the same year, they released their second single "SUBSTREAM" which was also met with praise.
