  1978年4月6日、テキサス州ヒューストン生まれ。母親の影響で、一家が住む教会でピアノを弾き、ゴスペルやジャズ、ブルースといった音楽に触れる。青年期に入り、ヒューストンの有名なハイスクール・ フォー・ザ・パフォーミング・アーツへ入学。卒業後、マンハッタンのニュー・スクール・ユニヴァーシティに入学。在学中にクリスチャン・マクブライド、 ラッセル・マローン、ケニー・ギャレットなどとギグを行う。その後、ニコラス・ペイトン、ロイ・ハーグローヴ、テレンス・ブランチャード、カーメン・ラン ディ、カーリー・サイモン、ビラル、Qティップ、モス・デフなど、ジャズ～ヒップ・ホップまで幅広い分野の面々と共演する。2003年にアルバム・デビューを飾ると、ジャズ～ヒップホップ～R&Bをブレンドしたスタイルで称賛を浴び、ジャズの名門ブルーノートと契約。その後アコースティック志向の“トリオ”とよりヒップホップ志...
