Over the past few years, Jo Kira has worked incredibly hard to establish herself within the increasingly competitive Leeds music scene. Most notably, she founded Square One, a monthly night at Wire responsible for giving exciting acts such as Canblaster, French Fries and Jam City their debuts in the city. With an extensive knowledge of house, garage and dubstep, her own DJ sets tend to be a blend of all three, pushing an up-to-date and uncompromising UK sound. Jo’s reputation as a talented DJ has carried her far beyond her hometown however, having played sets for Audio Doughnuts in London and Chow Down in Manchester.
She is not shy from the airwaves either, becoming the only female DJ to hold down a weekly two-hour show on Leeds’s leading underground station, Radio Frequency. It is therefore unsurprising that the New York-based Electric Sound Stage wanted to secure Jo for a slot on their station too. Spending almost every moment behind the decks, her track selection and attention to detail shine through in every set and with her name known around the UK and beyond, Jo Kira is most certainly one to watch for this year....
