Boro Lo has been active as a DJ/producer in East Asia for nearly a decade and today is considered the only foreign DJ regularly performing in China, who has managed to create a real following of Chinese electronic music fans.
“Cultural barriers are only in people’s minds, who are unable to adjust their point of view and by that building barriers where actually there are none”. ~ Boro Lo
To most outsiders unknown; electronic music events in China (a country of 1,4 billion people) are mostly organized and visited by expatriates, a circumstance that Boro Lo, driven by his believe that change was needed - and against all odds - has managed to overcome. With the record breaking TECHNOW event brand regularly held in Shanghai, Boro Lo and his creative event/music production company MUSHIDO (with offices in Shanghai and Hong Kong) have pioneered a for China unique electronic music event concept - years ahead of the competition - and have massively contributed to a positively altered image of electronic music in China as well as representing the upcoming scene in China to the outside world.
Attendants at Boro Lo’s gigs and TECHNOW events across China are mostly from the so called up and coming “80后90后” generation (people born in the 80s and 90s). Most of these are what is considered the “creative elite” in China (young people aged 18 - 35 with high education backgrounds working in the creative industries) in whose minds Boro - also an avid lover of all things art/design - has obviously struck a nerve.
The Austrian Techno ambassador’s - as he is called in China - secret to success seems to be the result of the development of his own unique style of Techno music - which he refers to as “Technow” and his ability to create perfectly timed DJ sets, blending new flavors with familiar sounds as well as undeniably being a born entertainer, all of which combined result in ecstatic crowds on dance floors and legions of followers across the world.
“To me Techno is a genre based on tradition but even more so it is dependent on technology, so it is always developing. Therefore “Technow” to me is not a single style of music that can easily be pigeonholed... It is a philosophy, a certain mindset and feeling... I call this music TECHNOW because to me it feels like the Techno of NOW.” ~ Boro Lo
