「“AKIRA” influenced artists, gathering for the night」

Global artists unite in Tokyo to celebrate the collaboration launch of “AKIRA Art of Wall x nana-nana Collaboration”.
In 1988, creator KATSUHIRO OTOMO released the legendary cyberpunk animated film “AKIRA” set in a dystopian 2019 Neo-Tokyo. Its phenomenal sci-fi vision, portraits of teen angst, and the detailed creation is still making huge impact across the world. Now the time has come, we have finally caught up to its set year, followed by the 2020 Tokyo Olympics as predicted in the film.

“AKIRA Art of Wall” project launched in October 2017, as a countdown for the grand re-opening of Parco shopping mall, one of the landmarks of Shibuya, Tokyo. OTOMO teamed up with his frequent collaborator collage artist KOSUKE KAWAMURA, remixing the world of “AKIRA”. Japan and L.A. based lifestyle brand “nana-nana” incorporated their artwork into their signature “A4” and “A5” PVC bags, and smartphone cases. After a guerrilla launch at L.A. and Milan, final destination will be Tokyo. nana-nana and Parco Shibuya will release the accessories on November 22nd 2019, then GR8 on November 28th 2019.
“AKIRA” and music as a universal language, the launch party will feature Stockholm’s multidisciplinary collective YEAR0001’s BLADEE, FEMI, and YUNG SHERMAN and Asian artists TZUSING, LOOTA, TOHJI and KIRI.
